- Checking a YouTube title before publishing (the limit is 100).
- Counting words for an essay, abstract or bio with a set limit.
Sources (checked 4 Nov 2026): X — official “Counting characters” docs (280 for free accounts; links count as 23; emoji count as 2). YouTube — YouTube Help (title 100, description 5,000). Instagram 2,200, LinkedIn 3,000, Threads 500, Bluesky 300 — Buffer help centre (updated July 2026). Platforms change limits without notice: if in doubt, check in the app itself.
FAQ
Why does X count differently?
On X every link counts as 23 characters and each emoji as 2 (official rule). The X counter here does that for you.
Does an emoji count as one character?
The overall count shows what you see (one emoji = 1). Some platforms count combined emoji as 2 or more, so leave a little slack.
Is my text saved?
No. Everything stays in your browser; close the page and the text is gone.
I have X Premium — is the limit different?
Yes: paid X accounts can post much longer text. The limit shown is for free accounts.
